Don’t even try to get your head around certification! How did he know?
The situation at the moment is that the entire range of GP Gliders will fit into the SSDR category in Ireland and the UK. We will discuss the details with anyone who is interested.
However, in EU land, the ‘Basic Regulation’ has been revised and the previous 2008 version is about to be superseded. It is expected to pass in June 2018 and should become operative 20 days later. It will allow for aircraft with MAUW up to 600kg to be de-regulated, with the agreement of the National Authorities. We should know the details of this long before any GP Gliders are delivered here and as soon as we do, this posting will be updated.
UPDATE: The new Basic Regulation was adopted during the last week in June 2018 by vote of the Council of the European Union. This concludes the legislative procedure. The regulation will be published in the EU Official Journal by the end of July and will enter into force at the end of the summer break.
FURTHER UPDATE: The new Basic Regulation is now in force, having been published on the 8th August 2018. It’s now over to the various National Authorities to act. We await news, in particular, from the IAA and CAA.
